I HEART DEBIAN/UNSTABLE

Site, Technical — acosta @ 1:13 am

TESTING -> UNSTABLE -> TESTING (FAIL) -> UNSTABLE. That was my upgrade/downgrade path today. Following the accidental (yes, really) upgrade to unstable, reverting to testing was horribly unsucessful (postfix/mail in general doesn’t seem to like me). So, we’re now running a full unstable Debian box!

P.S.: For those that don’t know, unstable doesn’t mean that the box constantly crashes.

RESTRICTED CONTENT

Site — acosta @ 10:46 am

I’ve finally gotten the restricted content section of my page set up. Those of you I know personally are welcome to an account. Just send an email to accounts@vdov.net with username, password and contact information.

I’VE BEEN BUSY

Site — acosta @ 12:06 pm

I’ve been busy updating the gallery, everyone check it out on the left! New pictures from Spring Break 2003-LA, and Christmas Break 2003/2004-Bend.

LE TOUR DE LANCE

World — acosta @ 5:03 pm

Lance Armstrong became the first person in history to win 6 straight Tours today. Aparently the French audience booed him as it became obvious that … well, no one else had a chance. Hence, I feel the Tour should be renamed ‘Le Tour de Lance’. When’s the last time a Frenchman won the tour? Hmm … at least not in the last 6 years!

UPDATE: Elie is a huge tool. Plus he’s French … err, European. I honestly can’t tell the difference. Don’t take him seriously.

NEW ON VDOV.NET: GALLERY

Site — acosta @ 2:51 pm

I’ve created a gallery on vdov.net. Right now it is just pictures from my last spring break in Acapulco — quite easily the best ten days of my entire life. Check it out (link is on the left).

9/11 COMMISION REPORT

World — afischer @ 7:57 am

The 9/11 Commision’s Report is 585 pages, but is worth reading through. It will actually be published as a paperback soon. The first 35 pages are about the actual happenings of the day and is the most chilling document I have ever read. This is much more somber than the usual VDOV fare, but seems almost one’s civic duty to take a look.

IPV6 NEWS

Technical, World — afischer @ 3:25 pm

Here is a little non-technical piece on the IPv6 upgrade from the folks at The New Scientist. Best line has to be “the internet’s master, or ‘root’ servers”. I can just see someone doing finger quotes. For a little more technical fare try here or here (Ciscos new routers on IPv6)

SPEAKING OF C-DEEZ

World — afischer @ 5:04 pm

There has been some recent posting regarding Wendy’s (Affectionately deez and even more affectionately c-deez… those who know, know… those who don’t should learn) and I thought it would be appropriate to pay a little VDOV homage to a great man and and a great restaraunt. Dave Thomas may you rest in peace and may the dollar menu always be 99 cents and the #2 no tomato, Dr. Pepper always be available.

Remember that while their are two Wendy’s in the Brunswick, ME area, there is only one that continues to please — so please make that extra bit of effort to get to Topsham.

DRUCKENMILLER LOSES POWER!

Site — acosta @ 4:29 pm

All of Druckenmiller lost power today, which killed the turbos on the FTMS for about 10 minutes, so now I can’t use the instrument for at least a day while the we pump it down (to 10^-11 torr, mind you). Damn uppity electricians.

BACK IN BRUNSWICK/HATE

Personal — acosta @ 10:38 pm

Well I’m back at school. I arrive late Saturday only to discover that someone has, with severe malicious intent, destroyed my room. Things are strewn about in a fashion that even I have a serious issue with. If anyone has any knowledge as to the culprit, said information will be rewarded to the fullest extent of my abililties. Further, the perpetrator will be acted upon with equal and opposite response (thank you Mr. Newton). Great to be back in Brunswick!

I HATE HW-97

Personal — acosta @ 1:20 pm

GOD DAMN IT! Have any of you totaled a car today? I have! I’m sure my parents are really thrilled with me. Hey mom, hey dad, I’m coming home for a week on your bill … and oh, right, I’m going to total the Honda. Who feels like taking a road trip?

22 HOURS LATER

Personal — acosta @ 2:55 am

After 22 hours of continuous traveling, and having been booked on 6 different flights (taking 3 of them), I’m back at home in Bend, Oregon — finally. Thank you United Airlines! To think, that’s about half what it would have taken to drive here from Maine. I’ll be back in the greater Brunswick area sometime late on the 17th of July.
