GO IVES

Personal, Site, Technical — acosta @ 7:18 pm

If you’re reading this (and at this point you don’t much have a choice), vdov.net has been moved to its new home, a machine named ‘ives’. It’s sad to see smashy go but the future of vdov.net looks great. Currently both the vdov.net blogs and vdov.net galleries are running bleeding-edge subversion trunks with a host of new features that I am enjoying. Props to Alec for really coming through and setting up great vhost functionality for vdov.net, thened.net, and our newest affiliate and colo partner sphericalchicken.net (Jason Green). Dopefulhopefiend.com, another long-time vdov.net affiliate, has yet to be moved to its new home, but will be shortly. Sphericalchicken.net will be up and running soon. I’m hoping that before smashy is shut down it will have reached 500 days of uptime (494 right now). We’ll see. Cheers.

  1. Fantastic… as always us non-backend guys send our love. Smashy is a venerable old machine now isn’t it.

  6. Nice work… too bad it couldn’t go 500 more. Also are there any plans to fire it back up just to see if it would reboot? And what will happen to it? Burial? Burial at sea? Funeral pyre?

  7. We sort of chose the “abandon by the discarded computer room” strategy. After taking all its memory out.

  8. So more like mummification… remove the brain through the nose and leave in a deep crypt?

  9. when i shut it down i actually rebooted it … i wanted to know if it would come back up. and, as expected, it did not. i didn’t think it would. 513 days is a lonnnng time.

  10. I was really hoping it would… too bad though. I guess I had more faith in that little black rectangle.
